Associate Video Producer
The Associate Video Producer (AVP) will assist Producers, Editors and other USA TODAY NETWORK staff to create, publish, program and share videos across all of the USA TODAY NETWORK’s digital platforms. The AVP will be responsible for collecting and organizing assignments. They will maintain communication with the video team leaders, National News Desk, USA TODAY editors, writers and reporters and local USA TODAY NETWORK properties. They will edit and produce videos for nationally-significant news stories, buzzy/trending stories, special features and social video content. He/she will also obtain video and information from USA TODAY NETWORK properties for production. The AVP may also be called upon to contribute original story ideas, write, produce and edit video content to be published across the USA TODAY NETWORK. The AVP will be expected to monitor social media and third-party content providers to find and produce videos.
The AVP should be comfortable writing, producing and editing their own videos. He/She is expected to be on top of the trending news stories at the moment. They must be comfortable with video rights management. The AVP should be a motivated, self-starter who can multi-task and communicate effectively across multiple groups. He/She must be detail-oriented, have strong editorial judgment, be able to think like a journalist, have time management skills and be able to work independently with limited supervision as well as within a group.
Responsibilities:
• Pitch, Write, edit and produce video packages for news, trending stories or series content.
• Research information and sources for videos and packages.
• Provide other video production support as needed.
Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications or liberal arts preferred, or equivalent experience.
• 2+ years of newsroom experience, preferably in a television or digital newsroom and/or equivalent video news experience.
• News awareness – candidate must be on top of current news events, including major players, locations, and general details.
