General Summary
The London based finance department for Sony Pictures International Television Production works to keep the divisional president appraised of all finance related matters for the group, primarily ensuring that a strong financial strategy is in place to support the division in achieving its goals and objectives. The team has responsibility for delivering management reporting for the division including budgets, forecasts, variance analysis etc.
The successful candidate for the SVP Finance role based in London will be responsible for providing all forms of financial and accounting analysis, as well as corporate development support for non-organic growth strategies and tactics and will lead a team of financial, accounting and corporate development professionals and interact with colleagues, advisors and auditors globally.
In the context of SPE’s International television production business, they will have the following core responsibilities:
• Report directly to the DCFO WW TV Production and manage a team of 36 professionals
• Oversight and responsibility for International TV Production Finance teams
• Fulfil all financial needs of the International TV Production business with direct interaction and supporting the President of International TV Production business
• In collaboration with management define financial targets and goals
• Lead the annual budget and long range planning exercises including collaboration with the divisional Presidents
• Implement and maintain timely and dynamic reports to support management in executing financial goals on a local, regional and global basis.
• Provide management with analysis of financial results shortly after quarterly and year end close, including an analysis of risks and opportunities across operating companies, comparison of budget to actual results, dynamic variance, trend , margin, etc. analysis.
• Regularly update senior management with the status of all relevant pending financial matters
• Ensure financial reports are accurately presented on a basis of US GAAP
• Oversee financial modelling of and timely completion of all new business opportunities approved by senior management, leading a virtual/remote team consisting of financial and corporate development staff and colleagues in the legal, business affairs, tax, finance, corporate compliance and other SPE divisions relevant to the deal, and SPT International Productions Operations team.
• Oversee the internal Sony approval process for investments made by the business
• Responsible for all aspects of the global accounting, financial reporting and financial planning process for both the income statement and cash flow. This includes mid-range plan, quarterly forecast, and budget processes
• Manage and oversee series Ultimates for purposes of financial reporting, and planning in accordance with GAAP and ASC 926
• Oversight of financial and business controls within the International TV Production business
• Partner with Business Affairs to develop financial models in support of talent and network negotiations
• Proactively manage a team of local and regional FDs to support the growth of the business's network of global production companies (including FP&A team in London, and Financial Reporting/Control team in LA)
• Oversee and implement reliable production cost accounting systems within each of the production companies
• Analyze and recommend any financial tactics for productions or other elements of the business, including restructuring and the like;
• Support and ensure necessary adoption, implementation and maintenance of Sony or SPE policies or processes
• Act as an ambassador for Sony at all times and conduct self with honesty and integrity;
• Function as part of the business's Senior Management team while maintaining appropriate financial advisory and financial accounting independence
• Work effectively with employees, at all levels, across the business including the ability to persuade non-reporting colleagues to timely provide information necessary for the success of the business
• Travel as required globally
Candidate Requirements:
First and foremost, we are looking for an exceptional individual with strong intellectual, critical thinking, decision making, team leadership and financial/accounting skills. You will be a highly reputable, senior-level entertainment or media industry executive with a proved track record in a global television production business, ideally internationally and with a high profile and relevance to Sony’s production business worldwide, with direct relevant experience.
Ideally you will have spent a portion of your career in a television production environment involving both non-scripted and scripted programming. More specifically, you should meet many, if not all of the following requirements:
• A strong leader who can develop and motivate a highly competent team of finance and accounting professionals around the globe
• Typically 15+ years financial experience required
• TV production industry experience required, particularly with Scripted programming
• M&A experience required, including managing and modelling potential acquisition targets
• The highest standard in influencing and interpersonal skills, to build and develop strong company relationships.
• Demonstrable financial analysis financial projection skills, as well as US GAAP accounting and financial reporting skills
• Creative and resourceful when it comes to problem solving and structuring
• A mature, personable, charismatic and professional individual who has the temperament and demeanor that is a fit with the company's culture; a team player
• SAP or Essbase knowledge preferred
• Strong MS Excel skills required
• Ability to quickly grasp new concepts and problem solve
• Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects
• Strong accounting / GAAP knowledge
• Detail-oriented with strong organizational, analytical and PC skills
• Ability to work well with others in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with all levels of management
• BS/BA degree with accounting/finance focus required
• CPA (or equivalent) and/or MBA preferred
