We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly organised Assistant Editor to work on our Scholarly Finance programme based in our London office. The ideal candidate will be commercially-aware, target-driven, energetic, and passionate about scholarly publishing.
The Assistant Editor will provide valuable editorial support to the Senior Commissioning Editor, will build good relationships with authors, editors and reviewers, commission, and manage day-to-day administration, as well as commission a number of books a year.
Responsibilities
• Managing editorial processes and the peer review process for new proposals
• Chasing authors for revisions and final typescripts
• Preparing final typescripts for handover to production
• Checking any required rights, forms and permissions for third party content
• Writing and editing cover copy and blurbs
• Liaising with authors and colleagues in sales, marketing, production and editorial
• Attending conferences and exhibits as required by Senior Editor
• Commissioning up to 15 titles per year and managing the editorial process on those projects from start to finish
Experience, skills and qualifications
Essential
• previous experience at an editorial assistant level or higher
• Educated to degree level (or equivalent)
• Have excellent communication and team-working skills to deal with people at all levels both in the company and externally in the finance practitioner and academic community
• Be able to organise and prioritise numerous tasks
• Be resourceful and proactive in dealing with problems and queries
• Be able to demonstrate good publishing business awareness and the ability to learn quickly
• Be able to work on their own initiative, as well as part of a team
• Be numerate and computer-literate, with a sharp eye for detail
• Be proficient in Microsoft Office
