Our Production team is seeking an experienced Editor to assist with the day-to-day oversight of the work of the vendors (local and overseas) who deliver the editorial, typesetting/design services for Pearson Australia print and digital products.
Reporting to the Editorial & Design Production Manager, the Production Editor will act as the editorial & design work stream lead on specific projects, ensuring editorial and design/typesetting vendors are completing their work to deadline, budget and quality standards.
This is a 12 month contract opportunity.
Key responsibilities:
• Assisting the Editorial & Design Production Manager in the allocation and on-boarding of vendors to specific projects.
• Creating and maintaining vendor-specific templates, guidelines and documents to ensure vendors are equipped to provide Pearson with a high-quality service.
• Training new vendors in Pearson’s editorial and typesetting/design processes.
• Troubleshooting vendor queries about Pearson-specific production conventions, including Pearson-specific Word templates and styling rules.
• QA checking of vendor work at key project points and providing feedback; this also includes standard project quality control checks such as prepress checks.
• Upholding Pearson’s editorial and design quality standards.
Qualifications
• Relevant editing or publishing tertiary qualification
• Strong editorial experience, preferably in a book publishing context
• High level of understanding of Editorial Conventions
• Experience monitoring the work and performance of vendors
• Experience monitoring costs
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Adobe Acrobat on a PC platform
• Excellent written and verbal presentation skills
• IPed Accreditation will be highly regarded as will experience editing educational products.
