The Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for tax credit analysis and cash forecasting for Sony Pictures Television (SPT) productions; forecast production and tax credit spend, track production costs and coordinate the tax credit filings with the multiple domestic and international film commissions and agencies. This position is responsible for tax incentive forecasting in addition to cash forecasting and production accounting including payables, payroll processing and cost reporting as well as general accounting duties and ad-hoc analyses on for domestic and international productions. This position will ensure that the accounting staffs in the field follow policies and procedures and comply with the various state, provincial and federal guidelines. The SFA reports directly to the Executive Director of
Production Finance and will work with Production and Post Production Executives, Producers, Production Managers, Coordinators, as well as with vendors, clients, Finance Management, Business Affairs and Legal and Labor. The ideal candidate will have previous experience as a 1st Assistant Accountant or Post Production Accountant.
Responsibilities:
• Coordinate tax filings and interact with state agencies and state and federal auditors in addition to 3rd party auditors as they relate to tax incentive and rebate filings.
• Manage all aspects of production accounting including budgeting, cash flows, payables, payroll processing, cost tracking, variance analysis, forecasting estimated final cost (EFC) during Pre-Production, Production and Post Production phases.
• Assist in coordinating the financials and consolidation of the financials of the production entities for tax reporting and filing. Assist in filing aspects of affiliated companies.
• Assist manager/director on P&L and off Balance Sheet report for non-consolidating entities. Responsible for tax incentive followup of 3rd party packagers ensuring completeness of tax credit information and cash flow actualization to cost.
• Knowledge of value added tax and filings with respective foreign agencies.
• Responsible for cash forecast of production cost spend and tax credit receipts for TV Production and the MRP/Budget process.
• Oversee and supervise teams of production accountants for respective TV shows – network, cable, new media/digital and ensure compliance with SPT policies, procedures and SOX.
• Liaison between the production teams, production accounting and TV Finance management, Music and Risk Management
• Consult with Tax, Legal, Governmental Affairs and Business Affairs as it relates to production and tax incentives and TV production issues
• Liaison with outside CPA firms and Film Commissioners and governmental agencies as they relate to the filing of tax incentives/tax credits/rebates inclusive of providing information/documentation for the respective filing for both US and International production.
• Assist with 3rd party auditors as they related to production costs and tax incentive audits
Requirements:
EXPERIENCE
• 3-5 years Production Accounting experience required
• Proficiency in Location Accounting systems (Vista/PSL/EASE), Excel, MS Word and Outlook
• Working knowledge and prior experience with SAP is required
• In depth knowledge and understanding of TV union and guild payroll – SAG/AFTRA/DGA/WGA/IA
• Working knowledge of cash forecasting as it relates to TV production
• Working knowledge of tax incentive calculations for TV productions for various domestic and international locations
EDUCATION
• BA/BS degree (preferably in accounting/finance)
SKILLS
• Strong initiative and ability to manage multiple projects
• Experience working in an entertainment company or for entertainment clients, preferably TV production accounting
• Knowledge of Guild and Union Payroll – SAG/AFTRA/DGA/WGA/IA
• Proactive self -starter on all projects; ability to bring projects to timely completion
• Knowledge of Studio Environment is required
• Ability to perform tasks with independence
• Ability to problem solve
• Advanced MS Excel/Access Knowledge is required
• Working knowledge of TV production and TV production accounting is needed
