Overview
• Assists the Senior Managing Editor in overseeing and managing new titles from Publishing Board acceptance through editorial process management to printer ready files.
• Interfaces with all the CARR Publishing Group's editorial, marketing, and creative team members as well as shared service areas of the company to support best tools, processes, and practices.
• On behalf of the Senior Managing Editor, makes assignments to Production Editors, oversees project management progress on those assignments, manages the relationship with and serves as liaison between a) Acquisition Editors and Production Editors and b) freelancers with respect to editorial assignments.
Responsibilities
• Provide project management assistance for Microsoft Project Server, ensuring the accuracy of the editorial metadata and timely deliverables and accurate key performance indicator status reports at all levels.
• Provide backup to the Senior Managing Editor and assist the Senior Managing Editor in managing resources and providing accountabiblity.
• Set up projects/ISBN with viable production plans.
• Support and manage project plans and revisions as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
• Oversee the Sales Conference and Catalog process for CARR by creating and updating schedules, agendas, taking and distributing notes, and performing comprehensive data checks.
• Ensure project documents are complete, current, and archived appropriately.
• Oversee the cover routing process and manage final stages of manuscript approval, ensuring editorial excellence by proofreading product packaging, front and back matter, and cover routings.
• Manage P&L (APL) development and processing as requested by the Senior Managing Editor.
• Manage fulfillment of major projects and initiatives/programs as requested by the Senior Managing Editor.
• Perform editorial and editorial operations support tasks (format proofreading, prepress checks, small proofreading jobs), assist Production Editors working on CARR Publishing Group titles with editorial tasks as requested (copyright pages including updated templates and updates for all information on the copyright page, pagination guides, UPS mailing slips, printing manuscripts).
• Convert manuscript files and place in Bookswip directory; field/screen all staff requests for manuscripts with appropriate disclaimers, watermarks, and password security.
• Process Out-of-Print or Short Print Run requests received from the Publisher or Senior Managing Editor.
• Manage the process for corrections for reprints from beginning to end.
• Assemble the CIP data and manage the entire CIP application/correction and implementation process.
• Receive/distribute advance covers received from printers and advance copies of printed books.
• Field, research, and forward as necessary queries received from the Zondervan website.
• Process requests for digital copies of manuscripts, subject to Publisher's approval.
• On behalf of Acquistion Editors and Production Editors, manage the assignment (with deadlines), flow, mailing or front desk pickup, evaluation, and payment (set up new vendors in the Hiperos Accounts Payable system and submit invoices) of editorial work assigned to freelancers (macro editors, content editors, copy editors, proofreaders, indexers, theological reviewers) and monitor and negotiate freelancer rates in consultation with the Editor-in-Chief.
• Seek out and keep a file of potential new freelancers, test and evaluate their potential, negotiate rates, and initiate/complete process for enlisting them as Independent Contractors.
Qualifications
Knowledge:
• Work experience: Experience in publishing/editorial work preferred; experience in project management preferred; experience with Microsoft Project 2010 preferred but not required
• Education: B.A. in English, Communications, or a related area
• Industry knowledge: Clear understanding of the Christian publishing industry, editorial practices, and publishing operations
Skills:
• Ability to quickly learn new software applications and maintain awareness of new and emerging technologies
• Ability to learn and use Microsoft Project system and online collaboration tools such as SharePoint.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Above average knowledge of English grammar
