Job Introduction
BBC Academy is responsible for all Training and Development across the BBC, as well as the wider broadcasting industry.
As part of this remit, BBC Academy produce training for different disciplines within our organisation. This particular role is aligned to the management and delivery of software development training for our Design & Engineering division.
The online technology training portfolio includes web development skills, testing, programming languages and frameworks as well as agile and lean project methodologies. We have a flexible approach to this training, and cater for online and face to face training, using both in-house services as well as our third party providers where necessary, and we are increasingly using blended learning techniques to enhance the training experience.
As well as providing formal training we also offer informal development by holding short presentations and workshops for staff, with the aim of assisting the delegates to reach their full potential.
As our staff are based across two main locations, the role will require regular travel to our London and Salford bases, where our Design & Engineering division are located.
Role Responsibility
• Work with D&E, the technology training manager and third parties to deliver courses based on the Academy demand plan. Identify new training requirements and source new courses accordingly whilst remaining within the current budget.
• Monitor quality of courses delivered. Review official feedback, discuss courses with delegates and development leads. Feedback to providers and ensure quality and value for money.
• Work with experts in D&E to shape courses to bring maximum benefit and value to the BBC. Assist D&E to run conferences, workshops, presentations and training sessions using D&E subject matter experts.
• Ensure that development leads and individuals get the most from academy training. Advise on the progress of those taking part in training, ensuring that they know where to find further support according to their needs.
• Establish strong links with key client areas. Specifically work closely with D&E teams (and in particular development leads) to ensure that training is delivered in a timely fashion to the relevant staff groups according to their learning needs and taking into account project deadlines and other time constraints
• Assist in the management of online training resources such as Pluralsight and Tuts+. Answer questions, guide individuals to the correct resources and manage licences.
• Promote courses and resources to the business to ensure maximum value from training. Work with technology training manager and the coordination teams in the academy to monitor demand and uptake. Ensure training delivered is timely and is in line with the Academy demand plan and if required update demand plan.
• Attend appropriate project meetings and workshops, and liaise closely with the business.
• Working with the technology training manager, ensure that all elements of training have clear outcomes, are regularly evaluated and demonstrate clear added value to the BBC through the appropriate use of KPI’s

• Experience of training and developing staff
• Experience of designing and delivering training
• Extensive knowledge of the subject matter, particularly web development languages, frameworks, agile and lean working methodologies
• Ability to adapt to different learning styles, using different training techniques as and when appropriate
• Experience of working with third party providers where necessary, ensuring that we can deliver great training at a great value
• Knowledge of face to face and digital delivery options, identifying which methods to use in relation to the training requirement
• Ability to communicate effectively with learners as well as colleagues and external stakeholders
• Experience of providing training that is accessible to all
