Assistant Editor, Vintage Español
Summary
Penguin Random House has a wonderful opportunity for an Assistant Editor to join the Vintage editorial team at Vintage Español,the Spanish language imprint of Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group.
As Assistant Editor the position provides a opportunity to assist the Publishing Director, Vintage Español, with daily editorial activities, including proposal/manuscript screening, copy writing, editorial work and project support. The position provides a unique perspective and ability to gain hands-on experience across many parts of the publishing process, including: managing editorial, publicity, marketing and administrative duties and communication with authors, agents and different departments within the company.
Responsibilities
• Provide general administrative support to supervisor.
• Draft CIS and liaise with agents, authors, and contracts and royalty departments to assure execution of contracts.
• Draft content—catalog copy, flap copy, tip sheets, reader’s guides, and other material for in- and out-of-house promotional use.
• Load book description, author bio, reviews, keywords to MyHouse and ensure metadata is accurate.
• Prepare materials for Vintage Español marketing and editorial meetings, including drafting Title Information sheet (TI) for all titles published by the imprint.
• Assist senior managing editor in transmitting conversion transmittals.
• Prepare and distribute weekly status reports for departmental production meetings.
• Design and draft monthly newsletter, which is deployed to sales and media lists via email.
• Manage monthly publicity mailing of books to sales contacts & targeted media contacts.
• Manage full publishing lifecycle, working closely with managing editorial team. Route, review, and provide feedback on covers.
• Coordinates the work of external freelance translators and editors.
• Manage Vintage Español’s publicity strategy for each title including writing press materials and pitches, handling media relations, scheduling and managing author events and travel, and ensuring coverage with a variety of media outlets. Work closely with outside media/publicity agencies on key titles.
• Writes catalog/cover copy and title information sheets to provide sales force and publicity department with descriptions of published titles.
• Provide reader’s notes on manuscripts.
Requirements
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize in a high volume environment.
• Meticulous attention to detail.
• Ability to work effectively with a broad range of people, in-house and out of house; throughout the publishing community.
• Some prior knowledge of the publishing process/office experience is strongly preferred.
• Ability to multi-task and manage competing deadlines.
• Strong and efficient communication skills, both verbal & written. Spanish language skills are advantageous, but not essential for the role.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Proficient using Microsoft Office tools (Outlook/Word/Excel) and other company used applications.
