U.S. News & World Report is seeking an experienced editor to oversee the creation of Health related editorial content for a long-term, data-driven project aimed at a sophisticated, politics and policy-oriented audience. This full-time position requires solid editing, writing, analytical and research skills as well as a keen interest and knowledge of federal and state policies as they affect health care. The ideal candidate should be able to work with a team that would include other editors, writers, web producers, freelancers, photo editors and data analysts. This position is based in Washington, D.C.
Requirements:
• A minimum of 5 years of professional news writing and editing experience, preferably in an online news environment.
• Extensive knowledge and experience with federal and state policies regarding health care, such as Medicare, Medicaid and the Affordable Care Act.
• Strong editing, research and analytical skills.
• Supervisory or managerial experience.
• Experience working with complex datasets and ability to assist writers in translating data into stories.
• Excellent collaboration and communication skills. Experience working with and managing freelancers.
• Ability to work on multiple stories simultaneously while meeting strict deadlines.
• Strong understanding of SEO.
• Familiarity with content management systems, web production and social media.
• College degree or equivalent.
