Position Summary:
The Production Accountant is responsible for managing production accounting duties for specific projects while being primary contact between company and client. Responsible for processing the company’s weekly payroll. These duties require an understanding of accounting principles, as well as an understanding of the sound post production process. Responsibilities include heavy interaction with Skywalker’s Supervising Sound Editors, Sound Designers, Production Staff and company management, as well as studio clients. The ideal candidate will be able to manage multiple high demand projects and deadlines at any given time.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Manage all production accounting duties for large, high-profile, tent pole features
• Interface directly with key clients to estimate and report project costs
• Handle complex production accounting work for multiple projects that each have crew and resources changing weekly for features, commercials, and intercompany projects.
• Create and revise bids for complex projects of all sizes
• Oversee the processing of complex weekly union payroll for a staff of 100-175 depending on production schedule.
• Ongoing support, training and troubleshooting of Hours 2 Gross payroll system
• Perform accounting duties including spreadsheet analyses, A/R, P/R, G/L and journal entries.
• Create monthly, quarterly and yearly revenue forecasts.
• Assist with revenue forecast analysis for yearly annual operating plan
• Prepare weekly/monthly production summaries of financial data and variance analysis.
• Prepare ad hoc historical analysis of labor costs and project revenue
• Manage multiple customer accounts, invoicing clients, prepare statements and make credit collection calls.
• Track revenue and costs on projects providing cost reports and change orders as needed to reduce cost overruns and improve efficiency.
• Work on special projects as needed with senior management and project supervisors.
• Prepare margin reports and JE’s for month-end close.
• Coordinate and process all new hire paperwork.
• Interface with HR Dept regarding various personnel issues.
Requirements:
Education, Experience and Skills:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or training with five or more years of related production experience prior to assignment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong GAAP knowledge and CPA preferred
• Strong Excel Skills, proficient with a variety of software applications, which should include one or more, sophisticated accounting systems (such as Oracle, Oracle Projects, Discoverer, and / or Access)
• Understanding of accounting principles; an understanding of the post production process also helpful
• Diplomacy, discretion, confidentiality, versatility, and reliability are critical.
• Must be flexible and have the ability to work well as part of a “team”.
• Must have excellent organizational skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and with all levels of personnel.
• Ability to prioritize work and remain very detail oriented.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills required.

• Uses a computer keyboard at least 75% of total work time
