Reporting to the VP, International Consulting, the Senior Manager, Head of Program Management Office (PMO), will oversee the PMO to ensure programs and projects are meeting organizational goals and requirements. A PMO’s responsibilities include:
• Develop and implement PMO processes and policies
• Work with the global Project Management staff whom will have a dotted line report back to the PMO
• Review and implement PM Methodologies appropriate to current and future services delivered
• Review and implement project management tools appropriate to current and future services delivered
• Review and implement the consulting team’s roadmap and initiatives
• Work with the Consulting Leadership Team to define, prioritize and further develop projects and programs
• Oversee the quality of delivery from the consulting resources to ensure that quality project deliverables are completed while also following and meeting standards to improve the work delivered
• Review what tools may be needed to implement, or changed, to help support quality assurance activities
• Assist in providing strategic leadership and guidance to ensure continual development of resources
• Assist on following up on and moving forward core project management capabilities for business value
• Adhere, enforce and contribute to establishing high quality standards and best practices.
• Assist in coaching and mentoring staff as needed
• All job duties described above require a flexible work schedule to meet client needs and often require travel.
• Projects oversight and help manage large and strategic projects
• Developing business plans and cost benefit analysis for assessment by senior leadership is required
• Participate and manage Risk review process and project Quality Gates together with Project Manager, internal Blackboard stakeholders and client
Professional Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree plus at least 15 years professional working experience, must have at least 5 years as a leader in a professional services preferable serving the education or public sector
• Proven Head of PMO with background of working in large scale environment on technology projects - a minimum of 5 years of working in, or leading, a PMO
• Minimum of 10 years experience in Project Management, preferable related to managing software projects serving the education
• A minimum of 5 years direct people management experience including performance management, career planning and professional development planning
• At least 5 years of experience in a consulting organization in a client-facing, project-team role.
• Proven experience as a valued contributor to the leadership team in strategically supporting a business through rapid growth and/or change
• Proven experience in leading diverse, virtual teams and managing in a dynamic matrix organization
• Ability to prioritize and delegate in a resource-constrained environment
• Deep understanding of consulting business fundamentals including resource balancing, project management fundamentals, scoping/estimation, and consistent service delivery through artifacts and standards.
• Superb communication (verbal and written), analytical and consulting skills.
• Exceptional attention to detail, excellent work ethic and drive, great interpersonal skills, team oriented, and demonstrated problem solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to work in and lead geographically distributed virtual teams and to build relationships with internal and external organizations.
• Demonstrated time management and prioritization skills, and ability to manage expectations effectively when handling multiple assignments simultaneously with competing deadlines.
• Experience working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment while prioritizing and managing multiple responsibilities
• Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and performance manage team members
• Proven ability to learn new technologies as needed.
• Previous experience in the education sector, knowledge management industry, e-learning technologies, or including at least one year specifically with Blackboard technologies, are a plus
• Written and spoken fluency in another language than English preferred but not required
• Travel requirements: Up to 25%
