Blackboard’s Engineering Productivity team works very closely with the Development, User Experience and Product Management teams to solve a wide variety of technology challenges and provide support for test development and execution against Blackboard’s new feature and legacy system releases. Using both industry standard processes and cutting edge technologies, our team works in a dynamic fast-paced environment to deliver new software releases.
• Analyzes end user requirements and customer reported defects to design and execute manual or automated test strategies across a variety of architectures and cutting-edge technologies
• Works with Product Design and Engineering teams to advocate for the development of high quality testable deliverables
• Works hand in hand with our development team while being part of an Engineering Productivity (EP) community
• Designs, develops, executes, reports, and debugs functional, mobile, browser, accessibility and localization tests
• Estimates Level of Effort (LOE) for test/script development, test execution, and other activities central to their assigned tasks
• Collaborates with other team members and with staff on other teams and departments. Interfaces with senior testing staff to provide and review assignments, provide and receive training on feature functionality and test development techniques, and participates in quality reviews of test plans and scripts.
• Can represent and advocate for Engineering Productivity with other members of the Product Development team for the purposes of joint triage of defects, reporting test results, and making overall product quality assessments.
• Communicates progress and escalates issues to management in a timely manner
Professional Qualifications
The candidate will have 8+ years of application testing, and familiarity with automated testing.
• Can analyze end user requirements or customer reported defects and design, code, and execute tests across a variety of architectures, mobile platforms, and cutting-edge technologies.
• Works hand in hand with our development team while being part of an Engineering Productivity community.
• Has independence, self-drive, and creativity
• Ability to estimate LOE for test development, test execution, and other test activities
• Can lead small testing projects with a cross-functional team
• Quickly earns the respect and trust of other developers.
• Ability to work with technical and non-technical business owners
• Has developed new tests and maintained existing tests across multiple platforms and toolsets
Required Skills:
• Experience in testing as an analyst or engineer
• Experience testing Web-based software applications in a SaaS architecture and on mobile devices
• Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle
• Strong analytical skills with excellent problem solving
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to work in a cross functional team
• Computer Science or similar degree or appropriate experience that would make the candidate effective in the role.
Preferred Skills:
• Basic programming skills
• Familiarity in an automation framework and automated testing tools
• Experience analyzing code coverage of automated tests and static code analysis
• Previous experience in the education industry and e-learning technologies
• Experience with Java programming, or scripting languages
