The Great Falls Tribune, a Pulitzer Prize-winning news organization that traces its rich history to 1885, is looking for a dynamic leader to oversee the newsroom.
The news director will be responsible for a team that includes coaches, reporters and photographers/videographers, dedicated to providing a steady stream of high-quality content. The news director will use data and analysis to drive decisions about covering the topics and issues most important to target audiences.
He or she will coach staff members to make strategic decisions about coverage plans and will direct and champion investigative journalism. As a key ambassador to the community, the news director will work to increase the visibility and impact of the Tribune in north central Montana. Excellent news judgment and editing skills are a must. A successful candidate will embrace the latest developments in video, digital technology and social media and will experiment with innovative approaches to build audience.
In addition, the news director will work across departments on content initiatives, ranging from new products to native advertising and content sponsorships. He or she must effectively collaborate with the production team and design studio.
The position requires a bachelor’s degree in journalism and at least five years of experience in writing, editing and management roles. Qualified applicants must provide resume, cover letter and work samples.
