HarperCollins Publishers is seeking a full-time Associate, Editorial Services in our Princeton, NJ office.
This is primarily a proofreading position in an Editorial Services group that provides proofreading, corrections-entering and other content-specific services to managing and production editorial teams in remote locations.
Strong candidates may have some flexibility to work remotely; candidates who have an ability to flex their hours should note so in their cover letter.
Responsibilities:
• Proofread HarperCollins adult General Books across a variety of imprints and genres (list includes literary and commercial fiction, serious nonfiction, celebrity memoirs, business titles, and lifestyle books), including marking for errors (grammar, spelling and punctuation), queries and page makeup issues
• Use a structured proofreading process to ensure error-free copy
Additional Responsibilities May Include:
• Enter corrections specified by production editorial team into manuscripts (Microsoft Word format)
• Apply structuring/styling to accommodate changes to manuscript content
• Learn HarperCollins-specific systems/processes/standards for proofreading and corrections
• Provide QA checks of ePublications
Qualifications:
• Professional proofreading experience, preferably in trade book publishing, including side-by-side comparison proofreading, slugs, and cold (“as is”) reads.
• 1-5 years of experience in proofreading
• Ability to query decisively and effectively
• Ability to work under tight deadlines
• Excellent working knowledge of Chicago Manual of Style and Webster’s Collegiate Dictionary
• Additional Requirements:
• Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Word
• Fast learner, willingness to take on new responsibilities as skill set grows
• Ability to communicate, interact with, and deliver on multiple priorities in a very fast-paced and dynamic environment
• Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work with cross-functional teams
