The production associate provides editorial and production support throughout the ebook workflow. This position works primarily on reflowable ebooks for the General Interest group, but may also support Young Readers and Lifestyle ebook production, as well as assisting with other print and ebook tasks within editorial operations.
Responsibilities include the following:
• Reviews ebook files for quality and accuracy on multiple devices
• Creates, edits, updates, and corrects ebook files, using both XML- and InDesign-based processes
• Creates, checks, and updates title records, metadata, and schedules in title database
• Supports managing editorial on administrative and production tasks, including metadata, archiving, and corrigenda
• Performs other assigned tasks within the editorial operations area
Skills/competencies required: Excellent copyediting and proofreading skills; excellent technical knowledge and skills (InDesign and Photoshop, epub and XML, HTML and CSS, standard Office software); excellent organizational ability and attention to detail. Requires at least some book-related production experience; ebook experience strongly desired.
Physical Requirements:
• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing)
• The person in this position needs to move about inside office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings
