The Test Development group is responsible for designing reliable and valid language tests based on theories of linguistics and psychology, and informed by an understanding of automatic speech recognition and natural language processing. We have an exceptional opportunity for a highly organized, detail-focused, self-driven Test Development Manager, ideally, with language assessment, test delivery/development, and quantitative/data analysis skills.
In this role you will be responsible for managing the development of new language assessment products at various stages of their construction, from designing tasks and item specifications through to data collection, validation, documentation and deployment.
Essential Responsibilities:
• Designing test tasks and writing test specifications for young and adult second/foreign language learners, including K-12 English language learners
• Creating test items
• Coaching voice talent
• Recruiting participants for data collection
• Analyzing data and writing technical reports
• Screening, training and managing groups of external consultants (item writers, reviewers, transcribers, raters)
• Communicating with various project members and stakeholders
• Participating in technical customer support
• Assisting customers with cut-score decisions based on their individual requirements
• Giving academic or technical presentations at meetings and conferences
• Designing, carrying out and writing up validation experiments
• Conducting original research for publication in the field of test development and validation
As a Test Development Manager you will be responsible for the success of the projects you manage with expectations to:
• Run projects according to schedule and within budget
• Anticipate and correct problems or shortcomings
• Interact with Product Management, Project Management, Engineering and Research & Development departments
• Manage large teams of external consultants (typically 10 - 50 consultants per project)
Qualifications
Required experience will include:
• Ph.D. in Language Testing, Educational Psychology, Applied Linguistics, Experimental or Cognitive Psychology, Educational Measurement, or related field
• Test development and/or research experience; proven track record of research or publications
Knowledge and skilled in:
• Test theory and the test development process
• Formative and diagnostic educational testing
• Synthesize relevant educational research
• Statistical software (SAS or R) and psychometric analysis (e.g., classical test theory and IRT)
• Practices with English language learners
• High level of organizational abilities; organize/synthesize information from multiple sources
• Solid problem solving and analytical skills; ability to solve complex conceptual problems implementing problem solutions proactively
• Effective communication in oral and written communications with ability to work effectively in a team setting
• Exceptional talent to prioritize, multi-task, be a self-starter; need little direction to get results
• Background in research design
Additional Plus:
• 2+ years of relevant work experience in linguistics, education, or assessment
• Knowledge of programming such as SQL or Perl
• Fluency in more than one language
