Director, Network Engineering –Backbone Operations
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Director, Network Operations has overall responsibility for leadership IP network deployment and operations of the National Backbone IP Network. The focus of the role includes all aspects of the IP network, including Backbone and Peering. The Director of Network Operations will lead a team of Engineers and Managers in operational excellence ensuring Spectrum’s stringent technical specifications are uniformly adhered to.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Leads with a continuous improvement mindset that consistently improves the effectiveness and scale of the Network Operations organization.
• Extensive network experience managing large scale national networks supporting multiple services and heterogeneous production systems operations environments.
• Strong working knowledge of network development processes, change managements, and project management. Project management experience with strong analytical and written/oral reporting skills.
• Provide feedback and ongoing consultation with the planning and development teams to ensure the market needs are being met in a timely fashion and in line with Spectrum’s guidelines and standards.
• Collaborate with peers, both within the organization and across other functional areas.
• Lead business continuity management planning as it relates to the network infrastructure.
• Assure adherence to established technology practices and policies in regard to network architecture, systems configuration, service availability, and operational procedures.
• Work closely with the network planning and design organization and be a key contributor to the definition and design of Spectrum’s converged IP networks.
• Lead the implementation of and migration to Spectrum’s agreed uniform architectures and common operation practices (methods, procedures, and tools) in the Texas market.
• Aggregate and review metrics and operations reporting across the assigned market area and act as a central point for these requirements across all areas.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
• Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible technical management and leadership.
• Knowledge of the Cable and Communications industry, FCC rules and functions, NCTA standards, knowledge of digital video technologies including MPEG, and data networking technologies including routing, switching, and DOCSIS (Data Over Cable ------Service Interface Specification).
• An effective bridge-builder between technical functional areas within the assigned market, with necessary people and performance competencies to communicate a passion to lead a winning team.
• Must be an effective communicator - capable of building relationships and communicating effectively at every level in the organization.
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
• Be a change agent and culture carrier, requiring the balance between strategic and operating capability with a skew towards seamless execution. The ability to drive hard for results with the appropriate strategic foresight, business flexibility, and people sensitivity is key.

• In-depth experience leading the end-to-end process of network design, budgeting, deployment, testing, and implantation for services such as digital television, Internet services, and telephony services.
• Previous experience in a Cable Television (MSO) environment preferred.
• Cisco and/or Juniper Certifications preferred.
• Able to work effectively with peers, leaders, and vendors in a productive collaborative environment coupled with the ability to be decisive when necessary.
EDUCATION:
• Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or University; or equivalent training, education and experience.
