Job Description:
The Wall Street Journal is seeking a creative, highly skilled motion graphics video journalist to join WSJ’s global video unit in our New York office.
This person will be responsible for producing explanatory features on a wide range of subjects and tailored to mobile, social and digital audiences. The job requires an extremely organized self-starter with solid news judgement who can pitch, develop and research stories, manage multiple projects at various stages of production, and work collaboratively with WSJ’s worldwide network of reporters and editors in a variety of coverage areas. We're looking for an excellent storyteller and a talented generalist who can translate complex stories into smart, elegant video packages.
Strong writing and editing experience is required. Deadline pressure is a constant in our newsroom, so an ability to react quickly is essential, as is the ability to add depth and context to a story while bringing challenging topics to life visually.
Your clips should demonstrate sophistication, vision and versatility, as well as your understanding of journalistic principles. Candidates should be familiar with multiple production formats, including vertical, square and 360 video, and be able to learn and adapt to new trends, technologies and publishing specs.
Experience at a top-tier news organization is strongly preferred. We will give significant consideration to candidates who show a strong innovation streak.
REQUIREMENTS
3-5 years newsroom experience
Advanced skills in Adobe, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator and Cinema 4D or another 3D program.
Illustration skills: hand-drawn or computer assisted.
Strong interest in innovative video storytelling and strategic thinking around social media
Ability to shoot video is a significant plus
