Assistant Editor - Philomel
Philomel Young Readers is looking for an Assistant Editor to join their team! The Assistant Editor will provide administrative and editorial support to the President & Publisher.
Responsibilities:
1. Provides administrative support for supervisor (answers phone; acts, at times, as surrogate via email; sends mailings to authors and illustrators; organizes meetings, etc.)
2. Generates requests for contracts
3. Develops and maintains own relationships with imprint authors and illustrators (via sending of reviews, etc.)
4. Supports supervisor on editorial projects in progress (the reading of galleys, etc.)
5. Assists in the composition of jacket copy, ARC copy, and title-information sheets.
6. Prepares PowerPoint presentation for title launches
7. Processes check requests.
8. Other projects as needed.
Requirements include:
• At least 1 year of experience in publishing industry
• Interest in children’s book publishing
• Strong copyediting skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• 4-year college degree or equivalent work experience
• Excellent organizational and time management skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
