The operating companies of Sony across America and Canada have recently created an IT global infrastructure shared service of the Americas (GIS-AM). Consequently we are hiring a Lead Database Manager at our Sony Pictures Culver City office to support the operation.
The Lead Database manager in Global Infrastructure Shared Services will lead a department with global accountability for the architecture, design and engineering of technology services covering database platforms, Oracle, DB2, MS SQL and MySql.
He/she is an experienced IT professional who will support a complex, multi-national business enterprise. He/She will provide strategic and tactical leadership for engineering, implementation and operation of Global Database Technology, and must have the ability to define and lead rapid IT responses to changing marketplace situations and changing business conditions. He/She will work closely with members of management including senior business management to design, develop, and implement IT Database platform strategies to improve global capability and availability. Primary accountabilities include 3rd party management oversight for a staff of Database Engineers and Administrators who are responsible for the day-to-day operations, design and implementation, architecture and technology strategy for Global Database infrastructure.
This position requires a strong emphasis on project and staff management, as well as building and maintaining a positive business relationship with clients and vendors. The responsibilities outlined below must be performed with a minimum amount of supervision.
Core Responsibilities:
Management – 60% Oversight for a Team of Database Engineers and Administrators, budget responsibility, and strategic/technology planning.
The Global Database Technology Manager will supervise 3rd party staff including orientation, performance management, counseling/mentoring, and corrective action as needed.
He/She will work with and assist other Global Infrastructure Management and Team members in the execution of tasks in order to meet corporate objectives and project time lines. Oversees the global database platform performance and maintenance to ensure the infrastructure supports company and IT requirements through routine maintenance and the identification and escalation of risk. Assists, recommend and review new database technology and solutions with Enterprise Infrastructure Senior Management Team. Collects and consolidates data to provide reporting/performance metrics, capacity for all RDBMS platforms and ensure the efficient and effective execution of work by the Global Database Technology Team.
He/She will provide details and work with Corporate Procurement on software renewals and licensing related to the database platforms.
Responsible for the coordination of database software components for the IT budget and annual plan including recurring upgrades.
Responsible for the development of effective working relationships with clients and other IT Departments.
Performs other related duties as assigned by Global Infrastructure Shared Services management.
Project Management - 20%
Develops all project plans, budgets, staffing and tools/architectures for new projects. Ensure the quality, accuracy and timelines of project deliverables. Responsible for staff adherence and competency in database platform standards and guidelines. Performs the selection/management of outside consultants hired for the project. Communicate project issues and status on a regular basis to project team members and Sr. Management. Reviews of Key/High Risk Projects, Post Implementation and “lessons learned” with team members and Sr. Management.
Operational Process – 20%
Insures clear operational 2nd and 3rd level support processes and escalation procedures for the Global Database Technology Team. Communicate and update Command Center and Global Service Desk on support and escalation process modifications.
Requirements:
• A Bachelors degree preferred or equivalent work experience
• 7-10 years in managing and leading a team of Database Architects/Administrators delivering database solutions and services to all enterprise applications and projects.
• Must be able to review, analyze and recommend opportunities to improve operational efficiency and effectiveness of Global Database Technology.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
• Extensive background in database technology and architecture. Knowledge, familiarity and or experience with the following technologies: Oracle, SQL, DB2, Data Warehouse and n-tier application models.
• Experienced in project management methodology and activities including estimating costs, project scheduling and resource allocation
• Demonstrates depth and breadth of technical knowledge; capable of making technical decisions
• Ability to manage resources in remote locations
• Ability to design, implement and support Oracle production databases for high availability, security, manageability and reliability
• Ability to design, implement and support high volume transactional databases
• Ability to perform complex, conceptual, and logical data modeling
• Ability to design, implement and support large database implementations
• Proficiency in Oracle backup and recovery techniques including RMAN, Online backup
• Proficiency in Oracle Grid Control, OEM, Context Management
• Proficiency in performance tuning
• Strong knowledge or Oracle, SQL, Unix and shell scripting
• Strong analytical & problem solving skills
• Knowledge of data migration, data archiving and data access techniques
• Knowledge of SOX and audit
• Excellent communication skills
• Strong organizational and planning skills including the setting of priorities and aligning performance for success
• Ability to build excellent working relationships by applying effective people management skills
• Excellent Leadership skills resulting in the building of a successful team. Developing others through coaching, mentoring and training.
• Ability to juggle multiple priorities
