Editorial Assistant – Clarkson Potter, Crown Publishing Group
Summary
We are seeking an Editorial Assistant to join our team. This position provides an opportunity to assist a Senior Editor and the Gift Editorial Director in the Clarkson Potter Editorial Department.
Clarkson Potter is the only dedicated lifestyle group within Penguin Random House. Founded in 1959, we are home to a community of award-winning and bestselling chefs, cooks, designers, artists, and writers—visionaries who seek to entertain, engage, and teach. Our diverse list is at once commercial and literary and includes cookbooks, illustrated gift books, and a growing line of paper products, such as journals, postcards, stationery, and games.
Daily responsibilities include proposal/manuscript screening, drafting cover copy, and all-around project support for the two editors. In addition to providing administrative support, this position also acts as a liaison between authors, agents, and different departments within the Crown Publishing Group.
We are looking for a detail-oriented self-starter who is invested in learning about the publishing industry. The ideal candidate will be able to efficiently manage a diverse set of responsibilities.
Responsibilities
• Evaluating proposals and manuscripts
• Researching trends and competition, including comps
• Communicating with authors and agents
• Writing flap copy and fact sheets
• Running P&Ls and other sales reports
• Collaborating with all in-house departments (publicity, marketing, sales, production, design, etc.)
• Coordinating the editorial and production process
• Providing administrative support, including scheduling, copying, filing, etc.
Requirements
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize
• Strong communication skills, both verbal & written
• Strong interpersonal skills, & ability to multi-task successfully
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
