Associate Editor, Bon Appétit
Bon Appétit is looking for an experienced writer and editor who is passionate not just about food, but about home cooking. The ideal candidate knows their way around the kitchen, is deeply curious about new ingredients, techniques, and food trends, and can communicate service content in a way that is clear, engaging, and, most importantly, fun. Familiarity with the world of chefs and restaurants a strong plus. Responsibilities include pitching, writing, and editing cooking service related content for all sections of the magazine, including primers and packages in the feature well. Excellent researching, interviewing, writing, editing, and story-packaging skills are a must, as is the ability to multitask in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Write and edit service-driven stories in Starters, BA Kitchen, and feature well.
• Oversee back of book Prep School section. Set lineups, assign and edit short, service-driven blurbs, and supervise relevant photo shoots.
• Coordinate with BA’s test kitchen to develop recipes that complement and reinforce the editorial thrust of a given story; coordinate with photo department to ensure that photographic assets do the same; coordinate with art department to ensure that editorial content is designed for maximum impact.
• Pitch and write stories for web whenever possible.
• Generate new and exciting ideas with the home cook in mind.
Requirements:
• 2 to 3 years writing/editing
• Bachelors degree required
• Working knowledge of both print and digital media
• Must be plugged in to pop culture/trends
