REPORTS TO: Literary Director
POSITION: Full time
LOCATION: Miami
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Hands-on editor with native level of the Spanish Language and strong command of the English language. This position performs daily editorial activities, including proposal/manuscript screening and project management. Provides administrative support and acts as a liaison between authors, designers, copy editors, and other internal and external collaborators.
Responsibilities include:
• Reads and evaluates manuscripts and suggests cuts or revisions to projects under contract.
• Evaluates titles from other PRHGE's subsidiaries to determinate commercial potential to be distributed in the US.
• Provides authors with editorial feedback
• Coordinates the work of external editorial and production staff.
• Maintains schedules and contractually specified length requirements.
• Provides follow-up on the editing and production steps.
• Makes minor changes or corrections on files, using InDesign, Photoshop or Acrobat.
• Releases files to printer after checking for accuracy and neatness.
• Reviews printer proofs.
• Handles special projects as they arise.
• Makes sure that all electronic files of local titles are stored in company's archive system (DAM)
• Gathers title information and coordinates monthly catalog creation
• Creates all pertinent title information about each title printed in USA, so they can be added to the company system (SAP)
• Writes catalog/cover copy and title information sheets to provide sales force and publicity department with descriptions of published titles
• Proof reads catalog/cover copy and title information (Spanish)
• Proof reads press releases and other marketing material
• Accompanies authors at author events, book presentations, etc.
• Attends genre-specific events, trade shows and conventions throughout the year, often on evenings and/or weekends
Minimum requirements include:
• Full command of the Spanish language
• Four-year college degree
• 3 + years in an editorial role
• Proficiency in MS, Excel and Acrobat
• Working knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop
• Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize
• Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously
• Ability to pay attention to detail
• Strong communication skill, both verbal & written
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
