USA TODAY NETWORK is one of the top 20 digital companies in the country, sharing the list with Google, Facebook, and Amazon. And we have over 100 million unique visitors a month, which is more than Buzzfeed, Yahoo News, and Huffington Post. Because our team consists of over 110 local properties with USA TODAY at the helm, you’ll have the luxury of living in a community you love while making a national impact.
The USA Today Network South Carolina region is looking for a skilled coach who can lead a team of seven reporters and help them cover the stories that are important to the people who live in our thriving communities.
We want someone who can help these journalists with varied experience build connections to their community, gain expertise on their beats, develop strong sources and identify compelling, meaningful stories that will help make Greenville, Anderson and all of Upstate South Carolina an even better place to live.
We want a coach who embraces multimedia storytelling and can help our reporters tell their stories in new and innovative ways that will appeal to readers not just in the Upstate of South Carolina, but across the USA Today Network.
The coach reports directly to the South Carolina regional news director, and will spend time in newsrooms in Greenville and Anderson.
Among the qualifications we’re seeking:
• A college degree and at least five years in a newsroom environment.
• Experience reporting and editing in a multimedia newsroom.
• Experience telling compelling stories and helping others identify engaging narratives that will enliven their reporting.
• Strong digital acumen. We are a digital-first newsroom and all of our journalism needs to reflect that mindset
The USA Today Network South Carolina region is a single news organization spanning two newsrooms – The Greenville News and the Anderson Independent Mail – to create one of the largest teams of journalists in the Upstate of South Carolina.
Greenville and Anderson, just 30 miles apart, are in the picturesque Upstate of South Carolina just 30 minutes away from the Blue Ridge Mountains and only hours away from the Atlantic Coast. Greenville is frequently listed as one of the best places in the country to live, and has a downtown that is considered a gem of the Southeast. Anderson is a growing county that in some ways depends on Greenville and in others strives to be independent of its larger neighbor. Both cities are ripe for quality watchdog journalism. Our team is ready to dig into it.
