The Penguin Random House Digital Workflow Support team is seeking a Manager, Digital Workflow Support - Designto join a talented and established team supporting Random House's workflows for print and ebook production.
The Manager, Digital Workflow Support - Design will specifically help support the interior book designers, and print and digital production managers working within Penguin Random House’s digital workflow for creating print and ebooks. In addition, you will also assist with ongoing development and testing of improved processes and tools for design and content creation.
What you will do:
• Help the team developing recommended best practices and processes related to book interior design and production for print books and ebooks
• Work closely with the individuals supporting the editorial teams to make sure that editorial and design best practices are in sync
• Write documentation and deliver training on and off-site to book interior designers and other workflow participants
• Evaluate design application files for compliance with best practices and workflow requirements; test and evaluate InDesign files for print and digital production readiness and quality
• Problem solve and troubleshoot application files through the design, typesetting, and ebook production phases of the workflow
• Provide one-on-one support to workflow participants as needed
• Develop and maintain templates for series titles, and ebook-only materials
• Produce exemplar documents to support development and enable thorough, organized testing of new tools and processes
• Test functionality of design and ebook production tools
You have:
• Expert Level Knowledge of Adobe InDesign
• Proficiency with other Adobe applications, especially Photoshop and Illustrator
• Excellent critical thinking skills and resourcefulness in troubleshooting
• Experience in book design, typesetting, and production
• Basic understanding of HTML and CSS, preferably as it relates to ebooks in EPUB format
• Experience and/or demonstrable aptitude for writing coherent and effective process documentation
• Exceptional communication skills
◦ ability to support users across a range of skill levels, and simplify and explain complex technical information to creative, non-technical users
◦ ability to deliver training in one-on-one or group settings
• Organizational skills necessary to manage short term and long term projects, prioritize, and manage time efficiently
• Strong attention to detail, quality, and process
• Knowledge of javascript and GREP for InDesign is a plus
• 5+ years Book Publishing or relevant industry experience
