Introduction:

We are searching for an Art Director to assist with the day to day running of the production of print editions of The Economist, 1843 and World In; liaising with internal departments and communicating requirements to print and paper suppliers and preparing editorial and advertisement material for print publication. This role also acts as administrative support for the department.
Accountabilities:
In this role you will be expected to:
• Be responsible for the written and verbal instructions to Economist, 1843, World In, print sites
• Prepare, check and transmit the final editorial and advertising pages to remote print sites
• Be responsible for trafficking of pages on press day, Thursday, and working closely with the Editorial and Graphics Departments (A flexible approach to working hours is required on press day)
• The weekly assessment of colour and print quality of worldwide Economist issues culminating in production of monthly Quality Report
• Liaise with clients and advertising agencies to quality control advertising content, copy chasing and processing PDF’s for the print publications. Ensure ad content and layout meet both advertising and editorial guidelines
• Provide support on all matters relating to efficient production issue planning and advertisement production to internal stakeholders and external clients
• Process ad copy: assisting with classified planning, ad. setting and proof reading, checking of PDFdummy issues, communicating with sales teams on orders / booking related issues, updating and circulating page and issue data for financial analysis
• Manage administration functions for the department inc organizing weekly mailings, maintaining holiday and sickness records; copying, filing, archiving of invoices; ordering of stationery, booking meeting rooms, booking couriers
• Provide support for other team members to cover during busy times or holidays: signing off invoices and ordering paper supplies for the manufacture of The Economist in a given region, , maintenance of regional editions of the weekly issue on the CCI newspaper system
Experience, skills and professional attributes:
To succeed in this role you must have:
• Education to a degree standard or equivalent
• Previous work experience in a publishing environment is desirable.
• Basic understanding of the magazine production process.
• The ability to work quickly and accurately in Excel, Word. PowerPoint is an advantage
• Basic knowledge of all Mac based publishing systems would be an advantage (Adobe In-Design and Distiller, Enfocus Pitstop, Q-Automate) required for production of advertisement pages
To succeed in this role you must demonstrate:
• A fluency in written and verbal English
• Written and verbal communications prompt, clear and accurate.
• That you are confident when dealing with internal stake holders,& external customers inc. advertising agencies, print and paper suppliers
• A keen eye for numbers is important, as the position requires invoice approval and ability to interpret technical specifications
• An excellent eye for detail and the ability to work effectively in a busy team environment to tight deadlines
