The Star Press in Muncie, IN is seeking a lead high school sports reporter who can expertly tell stories beyond the gamer. Readers more and more want to know about the people, the trends, the issues, the recruiting, and the analysis when it comes to high school sports and we need a reporter to answer that demand.
Furthermore, we’re seeking a reporter who can then take those stories to social media, use compelling voice and strategy and develop a devoted following of readers.
The Star Press currently covers a five county area that includes 17 high schools, so a high volume of stories will be expected. Additionally, The Star Press covers Ball State University athletics. This reporter will, at times, handle some of that reporting, though the position is primarily high school sports coverage.
Preferred applicants should have at least 1 year professional sports reporting experience, a proven record of social media success and a deep desire to tell stories beyond what happens during the game. Resume, cover letter and at least three writing samples are required.
