Job Introduction

Digital UK is owned by the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Arqiva. The company provides operational support for the digital terrestrial TV platform. It also provides viewers with information and advice about terrestrial TV channels, services and reception.
Role Responsibility
Formal testing and conformance of devices for the Freeview Play television platform:
• Use of formal testing tools to ensure candidate devices meet the requirements of the Freeview Play platform
• Assisting with the development and improvement of Digital UK’s tools
• Conducting detailed low level analysis of devices to understand how and why they fail
• Using this analysis to assist manufacturers in their device development.
Developing an understanding of broadcast and online distribution technologies and technical specifications, such as HbbTV, MPEG, HEVC, DASH, etc.
Engagement with the Digital UK Operations function to assist with the business as usual operation of the platform, analysis of platform issues and explaining the impact to the viewer of certain problems or changes
To build effective relationships across all Digital UK functional teams and Freeview to ensure activity is integrated and efficiently delivered.
The Ideal Candidate
Skills/experience required
• Good planning, organisation and delivery skills
• Good inter-personal and communication skills (oral and written)
• Good IT skills combined with some knowledge and understanding of underlying technologies including web technology (HTML5, JavaScript, etc.), network technology (IP networks) and video technology (MPEG, etc.)
• Knowledge of and an interest in broadcasting and connected TV industry
• Able to work to conflicting priorities and to tight deadlines
