The Naples Daily News in beautiful and sunny Southwest Florida is seeking a versatile, energetic and curious reporter to cover Estero, Florida.
South Lee County is a growing area with a lot of quirky history (Google "Koreshan Unity") right on the Gulf of Mexico. It encompasses the village of Estero and the city of Bonita Springs.
The reporter must be comfortable producing breaking news, enterprise and human interest content across our digital, social and print platforms. His or her work will appear regularly in at least three publications: Naples Daily News, The Banner and the News-Press, with the chance of being featured in others.
The ideal candidate must be skilled in social media, public records and have a solid understanding of how city government works. He or she must be able to explain what a millage rate is without sounding like a textbook. The best candidate will self-generate ideas and weave them into stories about real people.
The Estero reporter must be willing to split his or her time between the south Lee County office in Estero and the main office in North Naples.
The reporter should be able to shoot pictures and videos, and write cleanly, with an adherence to AP style.
The position is ideal for aspiring young journalists wanting to kick off their career as a general assignment reporter, but all candidates will be reviewed.
Candidates who are bilingual in English and Spanish preferred, but it’s not a requirement.
