Assistant Editor – Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group
Summary
We are currently seeking an Assistant Editor to join the Knopf Doubleday Publishing Group’s editorial team. The position provides an opportunity to assist a VP & Executive Editor of the Vintage Anchor Editorial Department with daily editorial activities, including proposal/manuscript screening, copy writing, editorial work and project support. The position also includes light administrative duties and communication with authors, agents and different departments within the company.
Responsibilities
• Work with authors, publishers, agents, and the managing editorial department to coordinate and keep track of editorial and production processes.
• Provide general administrative support to supervisor.
• Evaluate manuscripts, write reader’s reports, and draft rejection letters.
• Contribute edits on select projects.
• Draft content—catalog copy, flap copy, tip sheets, reader’s guides, and other material for in- and out-of-house promotional use.
Requirements
• Must have book editorial experience and a keen interest in serious nonfiction
• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize in a high volume environment
• Ability to pay close attention to detail
• Strong communication skills, both verbal & written
• Strong interpersonal skills, & ability to multi-task successfully
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
