Editor - TarcherPerigee
We are seeking an Editor to acquire and edit prescriptive nonfiction titles for the TarcherPerigee list. An imprint of Penguin Random House, TarcherPerigee publishes many of the cutting-edge voices who are reinventing the advice/self-help genre. In this role, the Editor will communicate between authors, agents, and the in-house publishing staff to acquire, shape, and successfully publish books within the popular business, personal finance, and self-help categories.
Specific responsibilities include:
1. Acquiring, editing, and overseeing publication of approximately 8-10 nonfiction books and revised editions per year in the areas of popular business and self-help.
2. Editing approximately 3-5 manuscripts per year for the Editorial Director when needed.
3. Maintaining active relationships with literary agents in the imprint’s subject areas.
4. Developing strong working relationships with Managing Editorial, Production, and other essential in-house departments.
5. Following cultural and industry trends in order to evaluate potential projects and identify new opportunities.
Please apply if you meet the following qualifications:
• 4-5 years of experience in editorial acquisitions for a general trade publisher
• Genuine interest in working in the nonfiction category
• Strong knowledge of contract negotiations
• Familiarity with electronic editing systems and other online systems
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Strong follow-up and organizational skills
• Proven ability to set priorities under pressure and multi-task effectively
• Familiarity with social media trends
