The Desert Sun in Palm Springs, Ca., is seeking a Watchdog Editor to lead a team of reporters covering politics, city government, health care and communities in the Coachella Valley and Southern California.
This newsroom is dedicated to telling powerful stories, celebrating community success and challenging policy makers to account for their actions. We need a passionate watchdog who embraces collaboration across the newsroom to ensure we reach loyal and new readers. The right candidate will inspire and cultivate great ideas, identify and give voice to untold narratives, and support the defense of the First Amendment.
Candidates should have a college degree and at least three years of professional journalism experience reporting or editing coverage of city hall or local government.
The Desert Sun has been recognized four of the past six years as the top newsroom of its size in California, and has taken home awards from CNPA, APME, Gannett, Online News Association, National Headliner Awards, Society of American Business Editors and Writers, PPAGLA, Best of the West, Knight-Risser, Overseas Press Club, PPAGLA, Edward R. Murrow and the Emmys.
The Desert Sun is two hours from Los Angeles and two hours from San Diego and 30 minutes from Joshua Tree National Park. The Coachella Valley is a prime destination for investment in solar, wind and geothermal energy and is home to the Palm Springs International Film Festival, Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, Stagecoach, Modernism Week, PNB Paribas tennis tournament and LPGA and PGA tour events.
