SUMMARY
Responsible for the production and reporting of news and programming, specifically public affairs and political programming. Oversees aspects of newsgathering, production and editing of stories. Interacts with other editorial and technical staff in the process of taking stories from conception to air. Writes, edits and presents stories on the air in a clear and concise fashion.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Story Production
• Anchors, produces, researches, and edits newscasts and stories.
• Edits vo/sots and packages using non-linear editing system and creates necessary graphics for newcasts and stories.
• Develops ideas for stories.
• Interviews guests.
• Prepares stories for airing.
• Presents organized understandable, topical and attention-grabbing programming.
• Reviews content of stories and checks for errors of fact, technical errors, creative content, miscues, editorial mistakes and all elements needed to deliver quality programming.
• Critiques shows to find ways to improve them. Writes up weekly notes on problems and what could have been done differently.
Editorial
• Writes and edits stories, teases, scripts, etc. for shows.
• Copy edits scripts and reviews the final edited version of taped stories.
• Stays informed on current issues impacting our viewers.
Planning, Coordinating, Scheduling
• Schedules shoots, guest bookings.
• Ensures that all necessary elements in packages and programs are delivered in a timely fashion.
• Evaluates resources needed for adequate coverage.
• Plans major coverage as to not interrupt routine coverage.
Presentation Skills
• Appears on television when conducting filmed interviews or voice over narration.
• Represents company at other events.
Supervision (non-management)
• Monitors the work of VJ’s.
• Sets quality standards.
• Ensures that quality work is produced.
• Gives feedback and assistance to staff for improvement.

EDUCATION AND OR EXPERIENCE
• Bachelors Degree, preferably in Journalism/Communication /English or related field. General Liberal Arts is acceptable.
• Previous on-air experience required. Minimum of 2 years experience in news.
