Video Editor/Producer, The New Yorker
The New Yorker is seeking an experienced Video Editor who can both collaborate and work independently to edit original, dynamic, and engaging videos. Applicants should have experience in a range of genres: from short news pieces to cinematic documentaries to humorous shorts. Each assignment will require an impeccable sense of visual storytelling, minute attention to detail, and a creative approach to narrative storytelling. The ideal candidate is entrepreneurial and can edit on deadline. The job demands a keen editorial sensibility and experience with the demands of publishing on the Web. We expect the person in this role to have an understanding of The New Yorker’s distinctive voice and history and render that knowledge into creating content that speaks to a wide audience.
Primary responsibilities
• Edit multiple video projects from start to finish.
• Pitch and develop ideas into compelling episodic series.
• Work with print and web editors and writers to identify opportunities to translate New Yorker stories into videos.
• Work with social media editors to produce off-platform versions of stories.
• Continually optimize the placement of our videos on our O&O and digital platforms.
• Pitch topical and interesting story ideas to our syndication team.
Desired skills and qualifications:
• At least 3 - 5 years video production experience.
• Ability to work independently and jump in when a team effort is needed.
• Mastery of video editing software and production equipment: we use Canon and Sony cameras, and the Adobe Creative Suite.
• Passion for the history and style of The New Yorker magazine.
• Ability to find creative solutions to complicated stories.
• Be able to think conceptually.
