OVERVIEW OF ROLE
Director of Public Relations is responsible for developing and executing communications campaigns from concept to roll out that build media buzz and fan engagement around BBC AMERICA’s innovative, culturally contagious programming including top-rated science fiction phenomenon Doctor Who, groundbreaking unscripted series Top Gear, buzzy and wildly bizarre Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, award-winning Luther, as well as the upcoming series Killing Eve, and Blue Planet II, the next chapter in the epic story of our planet.
The Director must work closely with the Public Relations SVP, Public Relations Director, Publicist, Coordinator and programming executives and staff, including the network’s President and General Manager, program executive producers, scheduling, digital, social media and marketing to develop and implement publicity strategies. The Director must collaborate with other internal departments, including research, ad sales, affiliate sales, corporate communications and other AMC Networks staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Create and implement communications strategies to increase awareness and fan engagement in consumer media and support network ratings goals and bbcamerica.com / BBC AMERICA app goals.
• Collaborate with media (television, print, radio, digital, podcasts) to tell compelling stories around BBCA’s series.
• Establish and sustain relationships with consumer, electronic and digital media, including influential blogs and social media influencers.
• Serve as a key PR point person with joint venture partner BBC Worldwide in New York/UK and co-production partners including BBC public service in the UK.
• Work closely with BBCA’s social media, marketing, digital and research teams in New York, programming team in Santa Monica/New York and production partners in the UK.
• Act as the coordinating talent liaison between the network and the talent’s team as well as the talent themselves.
• Write and edit press releases, kits and creative, and manage the flow of this information to critics, editors, writers, and bloggers.
• Stay plugged into pop culture and identify trends, changes in media and new opportunities.
• Brief talent/executives for press interviews.
• Maintain an ongoing discussion with scheduling, marketing and production departments to inform PR strategy and tactics.
• Organize and/or staff press or fan events, media tours, BBCA’s presence at festivals and conventions, presentations for the twice-yearly Television Critics Association tour and industry screenings.

• Must have solid media contacts. Demonstrated ability to cultivate and sustain strong relationships with members of the media.
• Experience in digital outreach (blogs, sites, online communities) to promote business objectives.
• Pop culture and social media savvy.
• Superb written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
• Experience pitching, booking and covering national and local media press.
• Strong understanding of the media (traditional and digital) and knowledge of key members of the press.
• Demonstrated ability to work under pressure, meet tight deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
