Job Introduction
BBC Learning English is an award-winning department of the BBC World Service devoted to English language teaching. The service provides resources and activities for teachers and students, primarily through its own and partner websites. It also produces radio and TV programmes which go out on some of the BBC World Service's language services and partner stations.
Role Responsibility
As part of a multimedia English Language Teaching (ELT) team of producers, and reporting to the Team Leader, you will originate research, prepare, produce and present English language teaching items, packages, interviews, discussions, complete programmes, and features, for radio, TV, the Internet and other media forms. You will ensure that any programme material for which you are responsible is strongly audience and learner focused, and meets the standards required by the BBC.
Shift work may be required which could include nights, weekends and public holidays.
The Ideal Candidate
We are looking for someone who has a DELTA or equivalent English language teaching qualification with recent and substantial experience teaching English as a foreign language to adults in a language school setting (preferably non-UK). You must have native speaker knowledge of British English including complete comprehension in written and spoken forms.
You will also need to have recent experience in the production of English as a foreign language multimedia learning materials for online and social media environments. Strong technical knowledge, particularly the use of content management systems and online tools (e.g. image, audio and video manipulation) is essential for the role. The ability to present audio and video features would be an advantage.
With a great understanding of differing global audiences and differing levels of English comprehension you will have the ability to write, adapt and edit ELT materials with accuracy, clarity and style suitable for broadcasting or online content.
In addition, you will need to have good interpersonal skills, in particular the ability to work collaboratively within a team and to motivate others. A good knowledge of and interest in, international and British current affairs as well as a thorough knowledge of the aims, objectives and standards of BBC World Service is also essential.
Experience of teaching English in Korea is desirable.
