POSITION SUMMARY
The Design Director is responsible for creating and directing visual approaches across all aspects of the A+E Networks Portfolio that are grounded in editorial storytelling and a strong use of typography. The position will also develop and maintain brand systems across multiple platforms: print, digital, social and video.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
• Creative Execution: Act as design point person for a Project Team, own and manage the design and implementation of brand and business projects under the direction of Creative Director and in collaboration with Sr. - Art Directors. Prepare, package creative and assists presentations of projects across all modalities and form factors and a variety of project type.
• Collaboration: Collaborate with inter-departmental colleagues on execution of concepts whenever appropriate (Visual Design, Project Management, Print Production, Multimedia, etc…) to help ensure that stakeholders are on-boarded in a comprehensive and timely fashion.
• Attend and actively participate in daily design and Project Team status meetings. Act as team lead and team advocate. Escalate known risks and work to mitigate. Maintain schedules and quality control. Openly share project status information and materials.
• Maintain knowledge and stay competitive of software updates and advances in the marketplace to ensure we are bringing the best solutions to the brands and businesses we serve.
Qualification Requirements
• 6+ years design experience in print, with experience in translating brand systems across platforms.
• Ability to help lead and manage a team of designers and art directors with a range of skill sets.
• Ability to develop simple and sophisticated design approaches to complex design problems.
• Strong knowledge of information design principles.
• Strong understanding of workflows and process.
• Strong comfort level and flexibility for an organic and iterative design process.
• Ability to collaborate actively as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• Excellent communication and analytical skills.
• Knowledge of latest trends in editorial and digital design across platforms.
• Demonstrated fluency with design tools such as Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator.
• Expertise in InDesign (Adobe CC), Dreamweaver, After Effects (and/or Premiere Pro), Illustrator, Photoshop
• Web: HTML, CSS
• Microsoft Office Suite (in addition to Office Suite, PowerPoint), Keynote
