Content Distribution & Strategy Intern - Sony Pictures Television US Networks, Fall 2017 Internship
• The US Networks distribution team drives affiliate revenue opportunities for SPTN's 3 US Networks, Sony Movie Channel, Cine Sony and getTV. The group consists of three team members who are tasked with finding, negotiating and closing on new sales opportunities and performing strategic analysis to drive strategy decisions, all reporting to the GM/SVP of the division. The team works closely together to analyze and assess the key trends in the pay TV industry, including competitive analysis to craft our sales pitch, all working towards generating new revenue for Sony Pictures Television Networks.
Responsibilities and projects will be split between a long term project and day to day ones. For the longer term project, they would have the opportunity to perform a deep dive into either one of our existing networks or potentially an upcoming proposed network/venture, performing competitive analysis and research and then building a full deck that will be presented to the larger team at the end of the program to helps us formulate larger strategy for the network. For more day to day projects, they will include:
• Create and maintain sales decks that the team will present to potential affiliates
• Research/track distributor and network changes, including updates to our internal channel line-up documents
◦ Includes research on virtual MVPDs and changes in the industry, compiling data on new entrants that enter the pay TV market. Also includes assisting with analysis around real time industry changes like company consolidation and impact from such M&A
• Analyze channel viewership (ratings data) vs. distribution changes in the industry, helping strategize around any findings on how viewership growth impacts new launches
• Assist in tracking affiliate financials, pulling data from both public and internal subscriber and financial information
They will gain experience and learnings in:
• Becoming an expert in the TV landscape, specifically regarding traditional cable networks and how they bring in revenue, in addition to being at the forefront of any and all ongoing changes to a changing industry
• The sales process from start to finish, being able to sit in on sales calls and see how to pitch a network and what the follow up to the initial pitch looks like, including term sheets
• How to analyze and understand TV ratings data and basic financial statements
• Honing in on presentation skills, both building decks in SlideRocket to actually giving a presentation in front of senior management
• Exposure to not just other departments within US Networks but potentially other divisions within SPT
• Specifically around the longer term project, something they can take with them and use in future interviews
Qualifications:
• Enrollment in an accredited college/university for the duration of the internship
• Current education/degree in Business or a Business-related field
• Preferably prior internship experience, ideally within the entertainment industry
• Proficient in Microsoft excel
• Interested in developing oral presentation and presentation creation skills
• Interest in the entertainment industry, specifically the business or sales area of the industry
SPE’s Fall Intern 2017 Program is a 12-week part-time program from September 25-December 15, 2017. All applicants must be enrolled in an accredited degree program for the entire duration of their internship and must be available for the full 12-week session.
