Social Media Manager
The Product Planning, Development, and Marketing Group includes all the functional areas that work together to develop instructional materials that meet current pedagogical and market needs for PreK-12. Content is developed for a wide range of media formats, including interactive digital media as well as print. Colleagues within PDM have varying expertise including the following: subject-matter expertise across all academic subject areas, design, art and photo management, production management, social media, quality assurance, content engineering, and permissions and licensing.

HMH is looking for a Social Media Manager for HMH's Content Marketing team, with a focus on managing and building community. This role is responsible for the effective and efficient management of all assigned HMH social media channels, including Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, YouTube, Google+ and LinkedIn. This includes writing, executing and distributing content on those channels for organic social media strategies with the goal of increasing awareness and engagement, and growing the social media properties.
In this capacity, the Social Media Manager will work closely with other teams across the organization to mine compelling stories and lead the creation of engaging visual and written content for social media promotion of those initiatives. The Social Media Manager builds, manages, and executes a robust social content calendar that raises awareness of and engagement with the HMH brand and initiatives.
The Social Media Manager also works closely with others within the Content Marketing team to ensure alignment and integration with HMH's social media and content strategy, framework, and global editorial calendar initiatives. The Social Media Manager will work closely with the Director of Content Marketing to provide input into social media campaign strategy development and provide ongoing support on assigned projects.
In this role, the close monitoring of all assigned HMH social media channels and the ability to act quickly when needed, including the escalation and management of any customer service issues (in partnership with product teams) or crisis communications issues (in partnership with Corporate Communications) that arise is critical. More broadly, the Social Media Manager is also responsible for translating this monitoring and listening into the measurement of the success of organic and paid campaigns to inform social plans on an ongoing basis.
Primary Responsibilities
• Develops engaging social media content in support of K-12 campaigns based on a deep understanding of audience, customer need, message, business objective, and market research
• Builds, manages, and executes a robust social content calendar
• Provides social strategy input
• Manages and engages with the social media community – including content creation, monitoring and listening, and measurement
• Monitors metrics and trending topics and uses results for future planning
Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree in communications, marketing or related field
• 3+ years of experience in corporate communications or marketing with a focus on social media or related field
• Experience marketing B2B solutions or experience in publishing industry preferred
• Knowledge of the K-12 education market strongly preferred
Knowledge and Skills
• Extensive knowledge of Sprinklr, required
• In-depth knowledge of all relevant social media channels and technology including management tools such as: Hootsuite
• Ability to be analytical in understanding investments against reward
• Creative approach to promotion of and engagement with the HMH brand
• Excellent written and verbal communicator including strong attention to detail
• Ability to work well in a team setting
• Creative thinker able to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Physical Requirements
• Might be in a stationary position for a considerable time (sitting and/or standing).
• The person in this position needs to move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Must be able to collaborate with colleagues via face to face, conference calls, and online meetings.
