Position Overview:
The Portfolio Manager leads a project team and makes key decisions about the creation or expansion of a product or service.
Maintaining total focus on the product or service, the Portfolio Manager:
• Collaborates with the appropriate representatives from marketing teams in identifying opportunities for products and services to address defined customer needs, have a measurable impact on learner outcomes, and that will drive growth and profitability;
• Manages the ongoing growth of the product or service in a rapidly evolving market
• Responds to trends, needs and technological innovations
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Conceptualisation
• Acting on data provided by appropriate markets, and feedback from product research as necessary, define and respond to customer needs in the specified segment
• Working in close collaboration with the markets to develop and maintain the product roadmap for a specific product line or sub-segment.
• Act on market information by translating customer data into clear and actionable plans for the product
• Based on the results of research, work with the Courseware Designer to develop product concepts which take account of market requirements and fully align with the appropriate Pearson Global Scale of English Learning Objectives
• Plan appropriate research activity ensuring buy in from all stakeholders and including project team members
• Support Courseware Designer in testing concepts through modelling and prototyping
• Approve instructional design plans that result from the research and prototyping
Business Case Stage
• Prepare business case with input from the appropriate markets to illustrate how the product will generate target revenue and sustained profits over the life of the product (the Product Lifecycle)
• Present the business case documentation to senior management for approval
• Ensure that the efficacy story is completed in the business case paperwork for all new products.
Product Development Stages
• Contract external experts, consultants and/or Series Editors for consultation or promotional purposes as may be deemed necessary
• Work with the Content Development Manager to ensure that the appropriate content is either purchased, repurposed, adapted or developed to the current content creation standards and guidelines and allows for ease of future re-use
• Communicate any future platform requirements to the Director of Product Management and/or Platform Owner.
• Work with Courseware Designer(s), and Content Development Manager(s) to ensure that learning outcomes and the scope of the product stay on track; make decisions about evolving market needs as the product is developed
• Work with Content Development and Content Production to ensure that budgets and schedules remain in line with the approved business case
• Ensure review actions assigned on the path to efficacy show progress within the specified timescales for all existing products
Supervisory responsibilities:
Though the Portfolio Manager will not have any line-management responsibilities, s/he will remain responsible for the oversight of all project team member activities, ensuring that clear communication lines and a clear sense of direction and purpose are established and maintained, so that all team members are working to a common goal.

Qualifications
BA degree in linguistics, foreign language, or related field or qualification in teaching English as a second/foreign language (Certificate or Diploma in TEFL or TESOL)
Skills/Knowledge
Sound business and technical acumen, with the ability to navigate a complex and highly matrixed organization effectively, establishing effective communication lines to multiple stakeholders
Ability to juggle multiple priorities and deadlines, remaining pragmatic and results-focused.
Leadership, mentoring and coaching experience is essential—proven ability in managing change and establishing and supporting winning teams
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and interpersonal skills
Expertise in identifying project critical success factors and barriers to success, and in initiating change to bring about a successful project delivery
Ability to motivate a team to work to the best of their abilities, and to focus all team members on results.
Experience & Background:
Extensive publishing, media, or other relevant management experience
Proven record in developing and delivering customer-focused educational products
