Job Description:
The Custom Content team is made up of ‘newsroom’ of storytelling experts - Dow Jones’ most unique competency. Representing the highest editorial capability, the Custom Content team will provide original and creative editorial ideas and execution to our custom studio offering and beyond - including thought leadership platforms. The team will combine internal and partnered experts, and will draw the new creative production team within the Solutions Engine to scale up or scale down according to demand.
The Director of Content Events Programming - Custom will be responsible for developing newsworthy event programs featuring top speakers and to take the lead on recruiting, securing and managing those speakers. The focus will be on developing live-event programs that are differentiated in the market and feature timely, intellectually rigorous topics.
RESPONSIBILITES:
Program development
• Work with the Dow Jones editors to identify timely, compelling topics and themes
• Research topics to identify most prominent and appropriate speaker candidates
• Work with editors to refine topic ideas into strong conference programs
• Coordinate constantly with events team to ensure all program and speaker info is communicated and up-to-date
Recruitment and management of prominent speakers
• On behalf of WSJ Editorial and the Custom Content team, recruit and secure all speakers
• Develop strategy for securing each speaker - identify key contacts, position event appropriately, etc.
• Manage speakers' participation throughout each conference cycle, liaising with conference logistics and marketing teams at all times
• Manage speakers on-site at conferences, including "calling the show" where appropriate
• Maintain and continuously update our database of speakers and their status
REQUIREMENTS:
• 8 years of relevant experience, which may include high-end conferences, journalism, television booking, public relations, or other industries in which contact and interaction with business/political leaders and celebrities is central
• Experience with business, financial and political content is preferred
• Professional demeanor and strong interpersonal abilities;
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Creative thinker with good organizational skills, tenacity and enthusiasm
• Ability to work in an entrepreneurial, fast-changing environment
• Demonstrated flexibility and ability to respond quickly
• Candidate must also be flexible with traveling to multiple events within a year.
