Our award-winning industrial designers are the aesthetic and ergonomic hands behind our products – nüvi®, echo™, eTrex®, Forerunner®, just to name a few. Our designers collaborate closely with engineering, marketing and management teams to explore, innovate and execute the designs you know and love. They concept new designs and improve the form and function of existing products in all of our markets – automotive, OEM, aviation, marine and outdoor/fitness. We also have designers for exhibit/retail and soft goods. We are looking for a full time industrial designer to work with experienced designers in the conceptualization and development of new products through sketching, 3D modeling, rendering or physical mock ups at our headquarters in Olathe, Kansas. In this role, you’ll also be responsible for working collaboratively and professionally with our engineering and product managers to achieve goal and produce superior solutions on design products. Other essential functions include:
• Utilizes good free hand sketch skill to communicate design concepts and details throughout the development process
• Develops SolidWorks skills to communicate design concepts, details and physical model preparations and learns how to break parts for prototyping
• Coordinates with suppliers to ensure component parts orders are completed accurately and delivered on time such as Chromatech (dry transfer decals)
• Communicates status of work clearly providing visibility to supervisor or mentor verbally
• Collaborates with and communicate to segment team in engineering and product managers to produce superior solutions as common goal
• Keeps current on design trends and competitors’ design for appropriate segment
• Stays abreast with new prototyping, presentation or computer graphics techniques and software
• Generates fresh ideas and design concepts in freehand sketches and computer generated images
Qualifications
Qualified candidates for this role will possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or another field relevant to the essential functions of this job description from a four-year college or university OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. Other requirements include:
• Must demonstrate knowledge, education, experience and/or training necessary to use tools such as SolidWorks, Keyshot, CorelDRAW Graphics Suite, Adobe Creative Suite, and Sketchbook Pro
• Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
• Demonstrated courage to drive innovation
