Job Description Summary

The Development Producer is responsible for managing the incoming and sourced media assets, determining storylines, and distributing to social video, education video, special projects and other outlets including National Geographic Partners. The Development Producer’s responsibilities may include but are not limited to asset research, coordinating pre-production, creating story ideas, writing pitch documents, pitching video proposals for approval, and determining basic logistical plans. Development Producer reports directly to the Sr. Director, Impact Media.
Responsibilities
• Serve as traffic controller for incoming media assets from Explorers around the world. Make editorial decisions about best placement (social, education, Partners, etc.). (40%)
• Coordinate with National Geographic Partners video and television teams to source field material for Society videos (education and marketing). (20%)
• Produce treatments based on findings from Source and Archive APs to provide primarily for educational programing. Work to develop and lead storylines with other NGS staff, production crew, and collaborators during all phases of production. (10%)
• As needed, develop concepts and pitch materials for special projects, marketing, social, and other video outlets. Pitch in as needed on production of videos. (10%)
• Collaborate with entire video team to identify new content opportunities for Society wide use. (10%)
• Work with Director, Impact Video to maintain established schedules and completion of deliverables for video programming. (10%)
Minimum Education Required
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum Years and Type of Experience
7 years experience in all phases of short form video production – pre-production, writing, researching, and storytelling. Content development and/or assignment desk experience a plus.
Knowledge and Skill Required
The successful candidate will possess professional management, writing, video producing and storytelling skills. Must have an understanding and familiarity with operations of media production. Ability to prioritize workflows. Extreme attention to detail. Relationship management. Excellent written, verbal, communication and interpersonal skills.
