Job Description Summary

Special Project Producer will direct and execute the creation of original video content across all phases of production including writing, shooting, production, video editing, motion graphics and music composition, all towards the goal of promoting the work of the National Geographic Society. The Special Project Producer reports to the Special Projects Senior Producer.
Responsibilities
• Producing:Develop, write and produce a wide spectrum of remarkable videos that further the mission of the National Geographic Society – from short web videos to major video projects for high profile events. Guide internal clients through the entire production process, shaping stories, suggesting the right video product for the need, and managing the client relationship. Pitch and develop original video ideas that will achieve the clients’ goals. Coordinate production logistics, direct interviews and field shooting, direct edit sessions, and oversee associate producers in collecting stock footage and other assets. (40%)
• Project Management:Under the supervision of the Director and Senior Producer, manage all aspects of production, including scheduling, creating and managing project budgets, hiring and managing external vendors and contractors, and overseeing producers, associate producers and assistant editors to ensure all projects deliver on time and on budget. Ensure all projects are fully completed, including making sure media deliverables are archived and all paperwork has been correctly filed. Track projects using existing tracking processes and suggest ways to improve project management and efficiency. (20%)
• Editing:Edit simple projects to completion and do rough assembly of more complex projects using non-linear editing software (Adobe Premiere) as needed. (20%)
• Camera and Sound Operation:Operate camera gear, sound recording equipment, lights, studio backgrounds, and other production gear. (20%)

Minimum Education Required
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum Years and Type of Experience
5+ years experience writing, producing, shooting
Knowledge and Skill Required
The successful candidate will have a proven record of ambitious, creative, innovative visual storytelling, as well as proven success communicating science and conservation through video campaigns. She or he will be adept at client-based media production. Shooting and editing skills are a must, as is proficiency in Adobe Premiere editing software. Must be able to work well as a part of a team, as well as independently. Must have the ability to prioritize workflows and strong attention to detail. Excellent written, verbal, communication, collaboration and interpersonal skills are required. The successful candidate should have experience creating new video production workflows is necessary, and be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
