The Spanish Division of HarperCollins Christian Publishing is a leader in producing Spanish-language Christian content around the world. We are currently seeking a fully bilingual (Spanish/English), editorial support professional to join our team.
Combining organizational skills with being proactive, the Associate Editor provides editorial support to editorial staff and editorial director. This person will be responsible for managing various editing processes from the copyediting stage to print production as assigned.
Responsibilities:
Essential Responsibilities:
The Associate Editor may be assigned any and/or all the following responsibilities for a title.
Editorial Management
• Proofread, fact check, request permissions, prepare indexes and style Spanish book’s content as assigned.
• Coordinate manuscript and reviews to keep efforts focused on achieving deadlines. The position will assist in different editorial phases and mainly in the final proofreading phase.
• Review manuscripts for formatting accuracy.
• Management of special editorial projects such as comparing manuscripts to locate changes in revised editions.
• Manage research work for assigned editorial projects.
• Responsible for final proofreading stages, including assuring all corrections from proofreaders have been made.
• Prepare specification sheets and copyright pages.
• Management of reprint corrections process of printed books.
• Responsible for the development of assigned projects and report status of projects and activities weekly to the Editorial Director.
Relationship Management
• Consult English Divisions about product availability, design and deadlines, and requests files judging available dates and Spanish schedule needs for deliverables.
• Work collaboratively with freelance proofreaders and designers.
General Office Management
• Responsible for locating and sourcing various files as necessary.
• Responsible for posting and updating files to several servers.
• Responsible for development of special projects and other assignments as needed.
• Assist the Editorial Director with administrative duties as needed.
• Works with authors and agents to secure permissions and releases
• Responsible for maintaining accurate files and logs for each project.
• Oversee freelance contracts and Account Payables for the Editorial Department as assigned.
Qualifications:
Knowledge/Work Experience:1-3 years related experience. Some experience in researching, editing, and writing in Spanish and English required. Familiarity with Real Academia Española guidelines.
Education: College desirable. Preferably a degree in Literature, Journalism, Education, or related field. Will consider equivalent years of work experience in lieu of degree.
Industry Knowledge: Project management experience in Publishing preferred. Thorough knowledge and understanding of the Bible, and Christian publishing industry preferred.

• Must have proven ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and have a track record of exercising good judgment in the ability to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.

• Excellent command of Spanish language, grammar, punctuation and spelling.
• Must be proficient in English both written and spoken.
• Excellent organizational skills and methodical attention to detail.
• Strong interpersonal skills and a strong personal drive for quality.
• Enjoy working independently and as a member of a collaborative team.
• Proficient with Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and Adobe Acrobat.
