About the team
The person who obtains this role will work in the Autodesk Simulation Experience Design (XD) team - a global group of UX/XD designers working on a number of the world’s leading simulation software products. Some of these products are well established market leaders and others are fresh and new. We are looking for a professional with a strong design background in web-based and desktop applications. This role requires an eagerness to dive into users’ heads and own their challenges.

Responsibilities:
Reporting to the Simulation XD manager, you will be responsible for:
• Creating low-fidelity prototypes and high-fidelity User Interface (UI) and interaction designs, as well as visual designs, supporting design specifications and documentation.
• Appling strategic thinking in creating interfaces for new functionality, employing web and desktop best practices, and applying usability findings and metrics data.
• Pushing creativity and challenge conventional thinking to solve a large assortment of design problems.
• Building solid relationships with our customer base and get your head around the different personas and requirements for customers in different geographic regions.
• Undertaking XD research activities including remote or face-to-face customer interviews, round-table discussion sessions, or usability testing of concepts, prototypes or enhancements to existing workflows.
• Leading the design discussions that result from the research. Design at Autodesk is a collaborative process and we need amazing communicators who can help the development teams understand the customers’ story and lead the team in the process of coming up with a great design that will make our customers’ day! This design work will include the creation of personas and scenarios to help tell the customers’ story, workflow and UI design, visual design and validation testing.
• Working with the Product Management team to influence prioritization and drive the XD designs through the product development process
• Working with the local Software Engineering, QA, Documentation and Localisation teams to ensure that the XD changes are understood by the team and implemented as specified.
Requirements:
• You have extensive experience designing within a professional environment and have the portfolio to demonstrate your experience. Your portfolio needs to contain UX research, UI and visual design examples.
• You are a proven, talented designer who can research the users’ needs and objectives and can turn these into engaging experiences
• You have the ability to present your ideas directly to customers and use their feedback objectively
• You thrive in a team environment and are comfortable working with software engineers, content providers, information architects, quality assurance engineers, product owners, product management and other designers in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
• You are articulate, creative, innovative and work well within a globally distributed team
• You are skilled in creating intuitive, engaging, beautiful designs
• You can think through and communicate complex interactions and processes
• You aren’t scared off by engineering concepts
• You have excellent verbal and written English, plus good communication, organization, and presentation skills.
• You have an advanced understanding of professional and creative tools – including Balsamiq, Sketch, Adobe products, InVision etc
• You have the ability to travel
Addition skills/qualifications that we will look favourably on
• A degree in Engineering
• A degree in HCI or similar
• A degree in Industrial Design
• Experience designing for Machine Learning or Artificial Intelligence contexts
