Position Summary:
The Director, Microsoft and Virtualization Engineering is responsible for developing desktop and mobility management strategies and for the design, maintenance, and management of Sirius XM's desktop system and all applications installed on it, including all desktop aspects of the company's remote access systems (Citrix, VPN) and Mobile. This position is also responsible for all back-end infrastructure necessary to support the desktop environment. The Director will ensure that all applications available to the company's departments are consistent with the goals and strategies of the company and appropriate to its needs with a focus on asset management, software distribution, software packaging, patch management, systems integration and application support. The role will work with other members of IT to provide a consistent, robust and scalable desktop environment to the company. The position will also provide internal support and services to other areas of IT for both projects and on-going support operations where applicable. Responsible for the daily oversight of staff, including the hiring of personnel, conducting performance appraisals, and overseeing the daily operations of all Sirius XM end user device standards and platforms.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Manages the strategic design and architecture of the firm's VMware virtualization platform, Microsft server and desktop computing environment, including the desktop aspects of all remote access systems as well as mobile. Manages and maintains said environment to keep it current and optimal.
• Provides guidance on best practices, innovative solutions, and process improvements as it relates to management and application delivery across our VMware infrastructure and Microsoft server and desktop enviroments.
• Reviews literature, patents, license agreements and current practices to support business requirements and/or new industry technology. Prepares reports regarding new technology to communicate to management.
• Consults with and advises both peers and superiors of The Company's technology needs to support its desktop environment and Microsoft and VMWare server environments.
• Recommends moderately complex system(s) investment(s) to Management and clients based on results of assessment of current and future performance, stability, and systems management/life cycle issues.
• Maintains documentation for all aspects of the desktop environment and the supporting systems used for its management.
• Works in conjunction with the rest of the IT department on system issues and planning.
• Develops technical standards and ensures compliance with existing standards.
• Oversees and participates in project plan design, development, maintenance, and enhancement of Windows and VMware server environments.
• Ensures that all systems meet performance standards and that production support services are consistent with service level agreements.
• Produces monthly status and KPI reports.
• Provides 3rd level client support; deploys applications & manages workstations using enterprise management tools.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Manages all staff of Windows Server and Desktop Engineering team involved in the design, management, maintenance and 3rd level support of the VMware, Windows server and desktop environment and the infrastructure necessary to support it.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in relevant field required or equivalent relevant experience.
• 15+ years of industry experience and knowledge or equivalent combination thereof including 10+ years Windows Server and Desktop OS experience with extended Windows 8.1 and Windows 10 experience, along with VMware.
• Must have 5+ years managerial experience in IT Engineering.
• Significant IT experience in server desktop, laptop and PC applications as it relates to provisioning, support and maintenance.
