Meteorologist/Newscaster
The Meteorologist/Newscaster develops weather forecasts through the analysis and assimilation of various forecasting models. This position creates and presents the on-air forecast. The Meteorologist/Newscaster participates in extended reporting requirements of severe weather coverage. The incumbent enterprises, researches, writes, edits and reports weather-related news stories. In addition, the Meteorologist/Newscaster makes personal appearances on behalf of the station.
Essential Job Functions:
65% - Prepares and presents on-air forecast, including graphics. Participates in broadcasting and telecasting of live or recorded commercials or sustaining newscasts, marketcasts, news interviews, public service and special event programs of a news nature. Posts weekend weather updates and webcasts on the internet through station equipment. 15% - Analyzes and assimilates various forecasting models in local, zoned weather forecast.
15% - Reports, researches, writes/rewrites and edits news and news-oriented material, most specifically weather-related news stories.
5% - Promotes the station brand and enhances station image through news-oriented promotions, public service announcements, special events and personal appearances.
Education:
Four year degree in Journalism, Communications, or other related field, or equivalent training and/or experience.
Experience:
Two years experience as weather anchor or report for commercial or public television.
