Job Description:
Product Optimization Manager
Who is my manager?
Director, Optimization
About the Optimization Team
Digital testing injects an unfiltered customer feedback loop directly into product roadmaps, helping businesses develop the most valuable, sticky, meaningful (and thus profitable) product to their customers. In our humble opinion, it is the most powerful tool for making customer-led product decisions in existence: it’s fishing with dynamite. The optimization team is responsible for digital testing (A/B & Multivariate) across all of Dow Jones’ digital properties, working with product owners by designing variations to digital experiences informed by extensive research, prior tests, and gut instinct. We then launch these variations to a percentage of traffic, measuring their impact on performance against the current experience in real time. When a superior experience is found, it is pushed live to 100% of all traffic, and the process begins again. ABT: Always Be Testing.
What are my accountabilities?
• Own 1-3 Testing roadmaps/relationships e.g. acquisition, engagement, product, editorial.
• Effectively manage and develop 1-2 associates into the next you.
• Entrepreneurially seek out new opportunities for the optimization team within Dow Jones.
• Make your mark on the organization so when and if you depart, they will say in hushed tones: “They did great things.”
• Develop an internal relationship as an effective collaborator and a delight to work with.
• Be a truth-seeking missile, hunting down internal and external data and research that might lead to solid test ideas.
• Suffer from crippling test ideaphoria: be constantly developing test ideas based on gut, prior tests and research.
• Discover, vet and run optimization experiments to improve KPIs by priority of most scalable/profitable opportunities.
• Execute Optimization strategy and delivery for internal stakeholders e.g. acquisition, engagement, product, on time and within budget.
• Meticulously document your testing activities, including results and visuals so the learnings last forever.
• Request and manage Marketing, Technology and Editorial projects in alignment with overall strategy.
• Create, review and optimize customer segmentation to maximize conversion.
• Ensure tests results are appropriately tracked and regularly shared with internal stakeholders.
• Ensure compliance to legal and best practice standards to meet regulatory requirements while being customer-first.
What do you need from me?
• ROI-driven with strong analytical, strategic and creative problem solving skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in person, over email and on the phone
• Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast paced environment while managing multiple projects and tight deadlines.
• Understanding of tools and techniques used in product marketing and product development.
• Ability to prioritize and deliver on requirements from multiple stakeholders.
• Ability to identify KPIs and request and analyze data
• Intense curiosity about consumer behavior and preferences
• A healthy skepticism of the status quo
• 4+ years of digital product or product marketing experience
• Prior management experience.
