Responsibilities
Launched in 2008, “The Rachel Maddow Show” follows the machinations of policy making in America, from local political activism to international diplomacy. Rachel Maddow looks past the distractions of political theater and stunts and focuses on the legislative proposals and policies that shape American life - as well as the people making and influencing those policies and their ultimate outcome, intended or otherwise.
Job Purpose: As a Production Assistant, you will work directly with producers, senior producers and executive producer to assist in production of live news.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Work closely with producers to research, select, and locate required footage for broadcast
• Create on-air graphic as directed by producers
• Print scripts for anchor
• Assist in compiling research for anchors, maintaining on air updates during live program
• Gather information on breaking stories for anchors to relay on air
• Manage supplies, submit expenses, book travel for show team
• Take part in news meeting, pitch stories for show, keep abreast of news events
Qualifications/Requirements
Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree
• Demonstrated interest in current events, politics and public affairs
• Must have the ability to work under deadline pressure
• Strong internet research techniques
Additional Job Requirements:

• Willingness to travel and work overtime, and on weekends with short notice
• Must be “on call” 24 hours a day / 7 days a week
Desired Characteristics
• Preferred major – Journalism, Political Science, History or related field
• Strong knowledge of social media
• Knowledge of Avid/Interplay and iNews preferred
